Artha Bed & Breakfast is a part of the Artha Sustainable Living Center, which offers year round hands-on workshops and retreats in solar water-heating, gardening, yoga and more. Here you can experience green living powered by the sun in a 100 year-old farmhouse. Guests stay in private rooms and can enjoy the public spacious kitchen and living room, both with wood stoves.

Eco-Design – Artha has utilized green building materials in all updates and new construction. In the yoga studio and new home straw bale construction was used. The wood came from trees that fell during a windstorm here at Artha, or a local, sustainable forest.

Energy - Artha B & B is powered by solar! A solar thermal system heats the domestic water as well as contributing to space heating during the winter. Photovoltaic panels make the electricity and high-efficiency wood stoves are used during cold winter months. Artha uses as little energy as possible, and much of the energy it does use is renewable!

Conservation – Artha does its best to have the least impact on this earth. We water our large organic gardens only when necessary and we use drip irrigation systems and mulch. We compost all food scraps and use this as fertilizer. We utilize crop rotation to preserve the soil and we harvest sap from our sugar maples for maple syrup. We have walking and cross-country ski trails so people can experience the wilderness without directly impacting it. We use sustainable forestry practices and have planted over 5,000 trees in the past 35 years.

Ecological sustainability – Towels and sheets at this eco-friendly B&B are made from organic cotton and all non-VOC paint has been used throughout the home. To conserve water the bathroom is equipped with a low-flow toilet and low-flow showerhead. There is a towel and sheet program encouraging people to reuse un-soiled linens to conserve water and laundry detergent (non-toxic and biodegradable). We also have a recycling program for all recyclable materials. Appliances are all high-efficiency to save on water and energy. You can enjoy organic produce from the B&B’s garden during your stay.

Community – All staff consist of local people, and purchase local products when possible. Most of our food is grown on site and we provide literature on local business and events. Artha is a member of the Waupaca Chamber of Commerce and we participate in community events, or host them here at our facility! We are vary involved with environmental and peace organizations in Wisconsin, often serving on the board of directors.

In the summer it is warm and good for biking and hiking, and in the winter we have snow and you can go cross country skiing. Its’ power is coming from the sun with solar water, heat and electric systems along with wood stoves to make it cozy in the winter. Location

The Bed & Breakfast is a renovated farmhouse situated on a 90-acre plot of woods, fields and organic gardens just 10 minutes southwest of Waupaca near the chain of lakes in central Wisconsin.

Advice to our visitors

There is also the option of a Whole House Rental: Can sleep up to 13 people. Price: $100 per night + $15 per person, $750 for a week with no breakfast served.
