Description

Nestled into the Vermont woodlands, surrounded by gorgeous perennial gardens and massive maple trees, West Hill House Bed and Breakfast invites you to come and indulge yourself in relaxation, romance and recreation. Originally built as farmhouse in the 1850s, West Hill House now boasts 8 individually decorated rooms each with a large ensuite bathroom. And, to start your day, a breakfast that is worth writing home about.

Whether seated on the wicker furniture on the front porch, relaxing on the big deck at the side of the house, enjoying the view from the beautiful birch gazebo in the garden, or sitting by one of the ponds, you can’t help but be impressed by the peaceful scenes before you.

Many activities are offered in the Mad River Valley and the surrounding area of Central Vermont. The Robert Trent Jones Sr. championship golf course adjoins our property and in ski season Sugarbush and Mad River Glen are mere minutes from here. This is a great area for hiking, cycling, kayaking, soaring in a glider, skiing, snowshoeing, and bird watching. Antiques, shops, museums and state attractions are plentiful. Don’t forget Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory and the Cabot cheese factory.

Relaxing at the Inn is easy. Our barnboard-paneled Library with its treasury of books, recessed fireplace and pool table is available for your enjoyment. The Living Room with its huge stone fireplace provides the perfect backdrop for an intimate winter wedding ceremony as well as a cozy place to sit and catch a few Zs. The Sun Room also provides a comfortable sitting area, a table to play games and a panoramic view of our gardens. It opens onto the canopied garden terrace where on warm summer days, you may enjoy your morning breakfast or an afternoon beverage purchased from our wine cellar.

Our 8 guest rooms are designed with your comfort in mind. Each has a different theme including a touch of Scotland in our Highland Room, a bit of Texas in the Bluebonnet Room, and our piece de resistance, the Paris Suite, which is themed on the Louis XVI era chambers at the Chateau de Versailles.

Your bed is bedecked with “Memory Foam” to ensure a restful sleep and down duvets, pillows, and attractive quilts to comfort your body. A sitting area allows ample space for curling up with a good book, a gas fire provides both romance and heat for your room and individual air conditioners help provide a cool retreat on hot summer days. The large ensuite bathroom in each room includes either a shower and Jacuzzi tub, or a steam shower, and all are stocked with thick towels, robes and assorted toiletries. We provide free phone calling to anywhere in the US and Canada and complimentary high speed Internet.

As for breakfast, so far, no one has left our dining table hungry! Our multi-course candlelit feast begins with a glass of fruit juice, warm from the oven homemade sweet bread or muffins and a seasonal fruit dish. A tantalizing hot entrée gives your taste buds an early morning treat. The menu of the day might include our Vermont Treasure Box (croissant filled with scrambled eggs and locally grown vegetables), a steaming hot Ginger Pancakes with Lemon Sauce, Pain Perdu (French Toast) with our own blueberries and local maple syrup, or perhaps a Cheesey Soufflé. Vermont roasted Green Mountain coffee and a variety of teas are available all day and we encourage you to help empty our cookie jar!

Many dining possibilities await you in the evenings at the nearby selection of excellent restaurants.
