Situated in the seaside Village of La Jolla and commanding views of the California coastline, the Four Diamond Grande Colonial Hotel offers classic European styling in the intimate setting of a boutique hotel. Located just 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego, the hotel is a historic beauty that honors its traditions yet offers contemporary amenities and services.

Built in 1913 as the Colonial Apartment and Hotel, the Grande Colonial was a trailblazer in its day. Its original white wood-framed building was the first hotel in downtown La Jolla, and saw today’s tourist town grow around it. Now just steps from lovely beaches, interesting boutiques and world-class shopping, the Grande Colonial has played an integral role in the community for more than 90 years.

The hotel boasts a total of 93 guest rooms and suites (18 of which are extended-stay suites with kitchens located in two adjacent wings). All 93 rooms and suites are non-smoking and feature iPod docking clock-radios, 32” LCD TVs, Kashwére bathrobes, complimentary bottled water, free high-speed wired and wireless Internet access, daily newspaper and comfortable bed with goose-down comforter and pillows.

Each of the guest rooms and suites in the main building were completely refurbished in 2008. New draperies, bedding, wall coverings and carpet capture a vibrant, yet soothing, mood. Comfortable furnishings, enhanced and contemporary amenities and new artwork reflect La Jolla’s priceless ocean views. Additionally, all of the original single-pane windows were replaced with double-pane, screen-less windows significantly improving the energy efficiency, sound and insulation.

The hotel’s 18 extended-stay Club-level suites are located in two adjacent wings: the Little Hotel by the Sea and Garden Terrace wings. Interior design reflects comfortable residential style with full kitchens in each unit. Select suites also feature fireplaces, oversized soaking tubs and showers with adjustable body jets and rain shower-heads.

The hotel’s award-winning, Zagat-rated restaurant, NINE-TEN, regularly receives rave reviews for its market-based menu. Having been named the “2009 Best American” restaurant in San Diego, NINE-TEN boasts nationally acclaimed chefs, “Evolving California Cuisine” and a Wine Spectator wine list. Breakfast and lunch are served daily and dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday. Seating is available indoors or al fresco on the sidewalk patio or ocean-view terrace. A full bar is open daily and features happy hour Monday through Friday.

Located 12 miles from downtown San Diego and many world-class attractions, the Grande Colonial features a heated swimming pool, an ocean-view rooftop deck and loft, and private gardens, making the hotel a true retreat. Within walking distance are hundreds of shops, museums, galleries and restaurants renowned to the Village of La Jolla. La Jolla Cove and caves, known world-wide for scuba diving, snorkeling and ocean kayaking, are also steps away.

The hotel also boasts 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, accommodating up to 125 guests for weddings, meetings and other special events.
