Escape to the tranquility of our meadows, gardens, cows and sheep. Join Farmer Dale daily for morning chores after a farm-fresh breakfast. Families staying for two or more nights receive a packet (filled with coloring & activity books and educational materials) about farming and every child is invited to earn the "Official Weatherbury Farm Kid" designation. Younger children do chores and complete a picture worksheet; older children have fun doing chores and learning with our "Official Farm Kid Workbook."

Our mission as a farm vacation is to educate our guests about farming and agriculture, with an emphasis on organic. At Weatherbury Farm, a family-run venture, we are constantly working towards providing “green” tourism both in our farm vacation bed and breakfast and farm operations. Weatherbury Farm seeks to continue the concerns of the 19th century and early 20th century people with minimizing external inputs by natural recycling and conservation.

Location

Weatherbury Farm is located in southwest Pennsylvania (south of Pittsburgh PA) in the mid-atlantic region of the United States of America.

Weatherbury Farm is a sustainable grass-fed beef and lamb farm. We are striving to be a totally integrated farm composting our animal manure to fertilize our fields. We will also feed our free-range chickens using certified organic grains we are growing. Our goal is to heal the lands we farm which have been stripped of nutrients (with the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and herbicides applied before our ownership).

Advice to our visitors

Children must be supervised at all times during their Weatherbury Farm visit. Before coming to the farm, a farm safety booklet is sent to guests.

Weatherbury Farm (staffed by our family of three) is a working beef farm and not a Disneyworld environment. Please bring old clothes and shoes (remember that everything brown is not dirt), a flashlight for exploring the farm after dark and pool towels (if you plan on using our in-ground swimming pool).

Other: Not only does Weatherbury Farm offer the opportunity to learn about life on the farm, it is a great home base for exploring Pittsburgh, southwestern Pennsylvania, the northern panhandle of West Virginia and eastern Ohio. Families will especially enjoy the farm's 100 acres, swimming pool (on a summer's day) and kids corner after a day of visiting sites.
