Description

The 4600 square foot Ranch House was built in 2001 specifically as a B&B. Enjoy plenty of outdoor living with an additional 2200 square feet of covered portales and private patios. A Feng Shui practitioner participated in the design and building stages in order to balance life force energy. Using "green building" techniques throughout, the Innkeeper selected strawbale for it's natural origins as well as the insulation and "outsulation" properties. Using massive oak timbers and siding reclaimed from an 1860's era Tennessee tobacco barn, along with the strawbales which are from barley grown in Colorado for Coors beer, standing dead spruce Viga posts and beams from the Jicarilla Apache Reservation along with antique mesquite doors, gates and a mantle piece from Mexico saved over 16,000 board feet of newly milled lumber. The massive hand hewn beams, Vigas, and antique doors and gates lend to the rustic elegance of the Ranch House. Fourteen foot high ceilings in the Great Room and Dining Room are accented by up lighting and accent lighting that makes the warm wood colors literally glow. The beauty of hand troweled plaster walls, brick floors, wide bancos and expansive views along with the aroma of piñon wood burning in the fireplace in the Great Room is true Southwest Style.

From these humble materials you have a home that is warm in winter and cool in summer. It has a gently organic, sculpted quality. Every window and door opening is smooth and hand-rounded. Walls are not quite plane and their modest undulations give them a fluid grace in spite of their great thickness and bulk. The Ranch house belongs to the landscape as truly as the tan dirt of the High Desert, the chromatic skies and the rugged peaks that surround it.

And then the nightly show continues with the twinkling lights of Santa Fe in the distance, the stars and the Milky Way. Relax in your luxurious in-room whirlpool tub after a day of adventuring to nearby Indian Pueblos, award winning golf courses, horseback riding, National Parks and Monuments, Georgia O'Keefe country or an extravaganza of museums, shopping and dining in Santa Fe. Fly in a hot air balloon! Stroll private paths on our mesa or adventure into the arroyos.
